Are there alligators?

Gators thrive in the southern coast’s quiet waters, and Wakulla Springs is no different! You can see these mini-dinosaurs from the luxury of the boat tour or from the diving platform.


Are there manatees?

Yes, there are! Boat tours can give you an up-close look at these calm creatures.


Is the park dog-friendly?

Dogs are allowed in the park at no additional charge, but they must be leashed. Because alligators are not allowed on the beach or in the water for safety purposes.


How warm is the water?

The water stays around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.


Can you fish?

Fishing is not allowed in the State Park, as it’s a place primarily for preserving local wildlife.

Things to Do in Wakulla Springs


Here is the list of things you can do when you visit this beautiful, natural paradise, you may be surprised by some of the activities on offer.

Swimming and Other Water Sports

You can swim in parts of the Wakulla River, as well as participate in other water sports like paddleboarding and kayaking. There are designated areas for those with these types of watercraft.


Boating is not allowed. There is also a diving platform for those wanting to hop in the water to the extreme.


Lifeguards will
be present to check for gators. You may need to get out of the water periodically.

As mentioned before, you’ll have the chance to explore the crystal clear waters of Wakulla on one of the nature boat tours. Not only will you get a chance to see the local wildlife in their natural habitat, but you’ll also view the remains of an ancient elephant!

Cherokee Sink Trail

Easy


This short hike from the main road is the perfect way to spend the afternoon. You’ll walk through the calm forests and have the chance to view a variety of wildlife.


The trail ends at a sinkhole you can swim in. This is a perfect trail for families with children.

Birdwatching

This part of Florida has a ton of unique birds for you to see. There are over 180 bird species to find when you come to Wakulla Springs!


Waterbirds, birds of prey, and land birds thrive in this environment. If you love to birdwatch, bring your binoculars and get ready to call out!

While not technically in the State Park, these nearby attractions are definitely worth the visit while you’re in the area.

St. Mark's Lighthouse

If you don’t mind a little bit of a drive, St. Mark’s Lighthouse is an excellent place to travel for a day.


You’ll not only be able to look at the gorgeous white pillar, but you’ll be able to explore trails that will show you the wildlife of Florida. Watch out for gators!
